"So this is a perfect example of what the Shift Festival ... can do: bring to the nation’s capital substantial works, and major orchestras, that need to be heard more widely."

We had a great time performing with the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra at tonight's Side By Side concert! Huge congratulations to all of the youth orchestra members--it is always such a pleasure to perform with these fine students, many of whom we teach on a weekly basis. Bravo!
We are very excited to be a part of the 4th Annual ATL Symphony Musicians Appreciation Concert, scheduled for Sunday, January 8 at 3pm. This wonderful tradition, organized by ASYO alumni, brings together former youth orchestra students and the ATL Symphony Musicians to perform chamber music. We are very grateful to the ASYO alumni for their generosity and artistry, and we look forward to seeing you at the concert!
This Thursday at 6:45pm on stage, we will have the second Preconcert Chamber Music performance of the season. These concerts are a rare opportunity to sit on stage and get an up-close-and-personal view of your favorite musicians playing some amazing music. Both works on the program are based on poetry about wind, and the Schreker, written the same year as Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde, features some of our newest colleagues in the ASO. We hope you can join us!
Toru Takemitsu: And then I knew 'twas wind, for flute, viola, and harp – featuring Christina Smith, flute; Paul Murphy, viola; Elisabeth Remy Johnson, harp Franz Schreker: Der Wind, for violin, clarinet, horn, cello, and piano - featuring Anastasia Agapova, violin; Marci Gurnow, clarinet; Jaclyn Rainey, horn; Daniel Laufer, cello; Peter Marshall, piano
Puppies! At rehearsal!
The orchestra is partnering with the Atlanta Humane Society for tonight's pops performance. You can get $25 tickets to tonight's show using the promo code AHS and $5 will go to the Humane Society. These adorable pups might even make an appearance at the concert for you to meet them and their adorable squishy faces!
