"It must be said that Atlanta is lucky to have an orchestra that can deliver the most challenging works with artistic prowess and beauty. Such need to also be experienced by young audiences that can keep the sounds and heart of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra alive and beating for many future generations to enjoy." Working out last-minute details for the Barber Violin Concerto with our fearless leader, David Coucheron! Come hear your Atlanta Symphony tonight and Saturday for this beautiful piece along with Sibelius, Ravel and a special musical moment in memory of our Principal Bass of 40 years, Ralph Jones. See you at Symphony Hall! A sad day for everyone at the ASO, as we lost our dear friend and colleague, Ralph Jones. It is impossible to imagine this place without him, as he was a crucial part of this institution for over 40 years, but we know that his spirit will forever be with us on our stage and in our hearts. Ralph's influence is palpable in this orchestra's past, present and future due to his unwavering leadership of his section, overwhelming pride and tireless dedication to his students and the future of classical music. Please send thoughts of comfort to his wife, Gloria, and his children during this difficult time. Our concerts this week will open with Bach's "Air on the G String" in his memory. |
